How To Clean White Leather Sofa Stains

Don’t you get scared when someone eats food around your white sofa? Especially when it is leather. Well, if you do so then you are not alone.

For the cleaning series of our site, we have decided to include a separate post that guides you on how to clean white leather sofa stains.

Most people prefer dark-colored leather sofas but such colors tend to make a living room look dark. Using a white-colored leather sofa helps to make a room look radiant. But this also comes with the need to check your unicorn-colored sofa for any alien-looking stain.

So let’s discuss how to clean the cream leather sofas.

How to Clean a White Leather Sofa with Baking Soda

For this solution, you will need the following item to clean your white leather sofa. They are:

  • A Bowl
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • A sock for  cleaning and
  • Leather Conditioner

Step #1

In the bowl mix 1 cup of warm water with 1/2 cup of baking soda. Now stir this well with a spoon.

Step #2

Now take your sock and wear it in your hand. Dip your hand-covered sock into the bowl of mixture and start to wipe the sofa.

Step #3

When you are done cleaning, take another piece of cloth that is wet and use it to clean away the baking soda mixture on your sofa.

Step #4

After cleaning, remember to always keep your leather soft by using a leather conditioner or anything that will keep the leather soft.

Warnings

This is my favorite way of cleaning leather sofas. It is the safest way of doing this because a leather-based white sofa is usually sensitive and needs good care. If you do not have a sock then you can use a piece of cloth to clean the sofa.

I think it is easier to cover your hand with a woolen sock for cleaning. This way of cleaning is easy to clean corners and small areas of the sofa that is usually not easy to reach when using a regular piece of cloth.

For this solution, you will need the following item to clean yours. They are:

  • A Bowl
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • Dish Soap and
  • Vinegar

Step #1

In a bowl mix 1 cup of warm water and add a few drops of dish soap as well as vinegar. Mix this well.

Step #2

Now take a cloth and dampen it in the mixture and squeeze out the water. Wipe your leather sofa with this wet cloth.

Step #3

After this use another cloth or rag and drench it in water. Squeeze out the water and wipe the sofa clean as you do not want the soap and vinegar to remain on your leather sofa.

Step #4

Lastly, turn on the fan or open the windows so your leather sofa can dry. Then apply a conditioner to keep the sofa soft. This method can also be used to remove greasy stains from your leather sofa.

Try Using an All-Purpose Natural Surface Cleaner

For this solution, you will need the following item to clean your white sofa. They are:

Step #1

Grab a piece of rag and rinse it in hot water. Then squeeze out the actress water and wipe your white leathered sofa.

Step #2

When you are done wiping the sofa spray the Method All-Purpose Natural Surface solution onto the sofa.

Step #3

Now use a sponge to wipe the surface of the sofa in a straight line.

Step #4

Again use the same rag you used earlier to clean off the chemical on your sofa. Use a dry cloth to wipe off any access moisture. Make sure your sofa is dry from all that liquid. Just like before use a conditioner to keep the sofa soft.

If you want to know how to clean white leather bags, you can use this same method.

Try Using Lacquer Thinner

Another way to remove a pretty strong stain is by using Lacquer Thinner. This is a product used by professionals to remove years of old stains. If you have a stubborn stain on your white leather sofa then you can bet on this one.

I admit this is a risky move because this product is a chemical-based solution. However, when I applied this onto my white leather sofa-the dark stain was gone. So to use this item, add a few drops of the Lacquer Thinner onto a thin towel and then rub this gently in a circular motion over the stain.

Add a few more drops onto the towel if needed. After you are done cleaning immediately apply a leather conditioner to keep the sofa soft.

Warnings

I will only recommend this for removing strong stains. Do not use this product to clean the entire sofa. This product is meant strictly for removing stains when all other options have not worked.

Try Using Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol must be used with caution. Take a cotton bud or cotton swab and dip it in the rubbing alcohol. Now take this cotton drench in alcohol and rub at the stain. If the stain is lifted then immediately dry out the leather with a dry cloth and apply a conditioner to keep the leather stable. If the stain is too large in size then you may need to use more cotton drenched in alcohol to gently dab the stain away.

Warnings

Before applying any cleaning solution to the stained area, perform a patch test in an inconspicuous spot on the sofa. This preliminary test will help you determine if the cleaner is safe to use and won’t cause discoloration or harm to the leather.

FAQ on Cleaning White Leather Sofa Stains

Can I use baby wipes to clean the leather?

Yes, you can. I do not think this will do any harm. But I do not think this will do much although you can use it to get the job done.
Make sure to use a conditioner to clean the leather of your sofa.

Can I only use water to clean the stain?

Of course, you can. But I do not think this will work alone. You may want to mix it with some neutral dish soap before applying it and gently scrubbing the leather of your sofa.
Using only water may work if there is an ink stain on your white leather sofa. However, for a stubborn stain, using only water is less likely to work alone.

Can I only use Clorox Bleach to clean the leather?

Oh no!  Do not use strong chemicals on your leather. It will ruin the fabric and texture of your leather sofa.

Can I use the Lacquer Thinner for dark-colored leather?

I would not recommend using this on dark-colored leather because there is a chance that the leather will be discolored.
But using this on white leather is comparatively safer because even if the leather turns white, it will not be noticeable because the leather is already white, to begin with.
However, remember to use a leather conditioner to keep the leather soft.

Can I use the above method to clean my leather bag?

Yes, you can try out the above method but please do test it out on a small area of your leather bag.
If all looks well, then go ahead to clean the rest of your leather bag.

I do not have a Conditioner for my white leather sofa what do I do?

I highly recommend buying one if possible but if you do need to make one at home then here is a mini recipe:
Step 1: Mix one and a half tablespoons of vinegar with an equal amount of flaxseed oil in a small bowl.
Step 2: Now take a rag or piece of cloth and dip it in the mixture you created. Use the rag to wipe the sofa.
There is no need to apply too much. Personally, I just apply this once.
Step 3: After applying this let your leather sofa absorb this mixture you just applied for at least a day.

After 24 hours, make sure you dry the sofa by wiping your sofa with a dry clean cloth.

Final Thoughts

The best way to clean a stain on a white leather sofa is to treat it as early as possible so that you do not have to deal with this later. Stains are usually harder to clean if they dry up.

Please remember to use a conditioner after cleaning your white leather sofa especially if you think the cleaning was too heavy. If you would like to know how you can clean mold off leather furniture then check out the link. This post also looks at cleaning leather furniture.
